Rice exports to the Philippines increased by 41%

In the first 4 months of the year, Vietnam exported more than 3 million tons of rice. Of these, the Philippine market imports nearly half, continuing to be our country’s largest rice import market.

Vietnamese rice grains are very popular, meeting the diverse needs of Filipino consumers. This market still has many opportunities for our country’s rice businesses to continue promoting exports, maintaining the No. 1 position in rice exports to the Philippines.

Rice exports to the Philippines increased sharply

From the beginning of the year until now, our country’s rice exports have continued to grow positively. Total export turnover in the first quarter reached more than 2 million USD, up 33.6% over the same period last year. Notably, the Philippine market not only increased output, but also increased value by 41%, with an average price reaching 642 USD/ton.

Thailand and India, the world’s two leading rice exporting countries, account for a large proportion of the Philippines’ rice import market share. But currently, India is in a state of banning rice exports to ensure national food security, while Thailand only competes in the high-end rice segment. This is a good opportunity for Vietnamese rice to grow strongly in this potential market.

Vietnamese rice exports to the Philippines this year will exceed 4 million tons. Proactively adapting to new market methods and overcoming export barriers will be the best solution for businesses to maintain 80% market share in the large rice import market in Southeast Asia.

Export of cassava and cassava products earned more than 500 million USD.

According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s export of cassava and cassava products in April reached 183,361 tons with a value of more than 80 million USD. Cumulatively in the first 4 months of the year, this item has earned more than 510 million USD with more than 1.1 million tons, a slight decrease of 3.5% in volume but an increase of 13.8% in value compared to the same period in 2023. .

In terms of market, China is the largest market for Vietnamese cassava with output and value accounting for 91% of the country. Specifically, in 4 months, our country exported 1,054 million tons of cassava to China with a value of more than 470 million USD, a slight increase of 0.2% in volume but an increase of 18% in value compared to the same period last year. The average export price reached 446 USD/ton, up 18% over the same period last year.

China continues to be Vietnam’s second largest export market.

According to the latest statistics of the General Department of Customs, by the end of April, Vietnam’s exports to the Chinese market reached 17.7 billion USD, an increase of 10.9% over the same period last year (equivalent to an increase in turnover). 1.74 billion USD).

With the above results, China continues to be Vietnam’s second largest export market (after the US market).

Exporting to China remains important to Vietnam

Notably, by the end of April, there were 5 groups of our country’s exports to this neighboring country with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more, an increase of 3 groups compared to the same period in 2023.

3 product groups are cameras, camcorders and components reaching 1.88 billion USD (up 102.8%); fruits and vegetables reached 1.16 billion USD (up 44.6%); machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts reached more than 1 billion USD (up 7%).

The remaining two billion dollar groups are computers, electronic products and components reaching 3.98 billion USD (up 23.5%); phones and components reached 3.47 billion USD (down 14%).

Thus, among the main export product groups, phones and components are the only product groups with a decrease in turnover compared to the same period last year. This also causes phones and components to lose their position as Vietnam’s largest export product group to China in the group of computers, electronic products and components.
